Varidesk is one of the more respected names when it comes to desktop risers; their Pro and Pro Plus varieties gained positive feedbacks and rave reviews, which is a testament for the products’ quality. Each inch of space in cubicles is usually utilized, providing office staff L-shaped desk to work with. Spacious Work Surface

The triangular design of this desktop riser measures 33 x 48 inches, which means it has more than enough room for most types of workstations, whether you’re using laptop, desktop or dual monitor setup.

Dropdown Keyboard Tier for Comfort

As with standard rectangular model Varidesk Pro Plus 36, this one is also comes with a drop-down keyboard tray, providing users the best and most comfortable position for their hands, elbows, and shoulders when typing. However, because it’s attached to the top level, it moves with the top level and vice versa, which can be an issue for some users.

Open for Upgrade

As with most desktop risers, the Cube Corner 48 features an open-architecture design, leaving room for upgrade. One important upgrade you may want to know about is the use of monitor mount. Its work surface is spacious, providing a lot of room even for dual monitor setup. However, because you have to place your monitors or laptop right on its desk it may put you in a disadvantageous position, especially if your display doesn’t come with full adjustments. For a more ergonomic setup, you can get the clamp-on monitor specifically made for this Varidesk model.

The clamp-on provides extra 20.5 inch height adjustment, and can swivel and move your monitor side-to-side, and let you find the best angle and position for your displays in both sitting and standing position.

Bottom Line

As with other ergonomic products out there,  Varidesk Cube Corner 48 has its set of positives and negatives. One of its positives is that, it does bring a lot of convenience for users working on tight spaces, such as cubicles, as the desktop riser can utilize every inch of space there is in your workstation by working in one corner. However, it has some minor issues on its design that may have been compromises for its triangular shape.

For one, there are no precise height adjustments. Height adjustments are available at 11 levels, with 1.28-inch of increments. This may seem enough for most people, but then again, we all have different preferences and have different ergonomic requirements for our body. Also, when adjusting, instead of moving up and down vertically, it actually swings out in an arching motion, which will obviously push users away from their desk. Thus, if you have important stuff you want to keep within reach, you need to reach further to pick them up. Ironically, this arc swing actually eliminates the “space saving” idea, as the desktop riser will be bigger than it should be. This is one reason why some adjustable height desk manufacturers opt for gas-assisted mechanism – to provide more precise adjustments and stop and set the desk at any point within its vertical range.

Another issue is on its locking mechanism, it’s a bit noisy, but then again, it wouldn’t be a big deal for your officemates, unless you switch positions every 2 minutes.

The keyboard tray is quite a neat feature, the only gripe we have is it tray is attached to the top level, which means it moves with the top level, and vice versa. It would have been really great if they made the keyboard tray adjustable, as not every use is of the same size and height. The way it was designed, it doesn’t really address the ergonomic issue with keyboards and desks, which is prolonged wrist extension.

All in all, the  Varidesk Cube Corner 48 is still an impressive desktop riser for many reasons; such as quality and dependability, two common traits of Varidesk products. It is very easy to use, feels solid and sturdy, and definitely gets the job done.
