Samsung Series 7 S27C750P: An In-Depth Review

Samsung Series 7 S27C750P: An In-Depth Review

Not so long ago, people have to spend a fortune to get a big computer monitor that combines good-looking design and good image quality. That doesn’t seem to be the case now, as more and more manufacturers are making cheaper options for users on a budget. The Samsung Series 7 S27C750P is a great example, as it offers both better viewing experience and simple but stylish design with its 27-inch cabinet. The monitor is designed to provide robust colors, darker blacks and wider viewing angle, thanks to the MVA (Multi-domain Vertical Alignment) panel and look good in your desk even in a swanky office environment.

Who is it for?

If you’re looking for a bigger computer screen that doesn’t hurt your pockets, but with good balance of image quality and style, then the Samsung Series 7 S27C750P is for you. It’s an attractive 27-inch display that comes in a minimalist design with a lot of functionality features and good performance for general computing use, for entertainment and even for gaming.

Smart and Beautiful 27-inch Display

Samsung has always been known for making stylish products, from TV to smartphones, they don’t fall short in terms of exceptional design and functionality. This is what the Samsung S27C750P is all about – a slender monitor with glossy bezel and equally appealing silver base stand.

Ultra-thin Design for Maximum Viewing Pleasure

With slim, sleek and stylish cabinet, the S27C750P is designed to offer maximum viewing pleasure. As a matter of fact, there’s very little to fault about its image quality. The MVA panel works well in delivering deeper blacks and vivid and more vibrant colors. Though the panel has troubles in showing darkest shades of gray, the color accuracy makes the monitor quite adequate for almost all types of use, whether you’re watching films in high definition, editing photos, or even playing games.

The MVA panel is also the culprit for the monitor’s wide viewing angle, while the Full HD display makes everything look incredibly bright and vibrant. Color tinting and oversaturation are kept in acceptable range, which makes scenes in Blu-ray movies look good, and skin tones in images stay crisp and well illuminated.

The strongest area of Samsung S27C750P is its high contrast levels – it can score more than double of most standard monitors in the market today, making it fully capable of displaying images in full details in both light and dark areas.

Can Rotate 90° for Landscape and Portrait Orientation

This monitor from Samsung can also rotate 90° and let you work on your computer in either portrait mode in addition to the default landscape orientation. And unlike most 27-inch display out there, this feature of S27C750P doesn’t make the display look like towering on your desk.

Excellent Viewing Angle

The ultra-wide viewing angle is one of the highlights of Samsung Series 7 display. Even when set in portrait mode, you have to stand almost at the side angle of the screen to see contrast shifts. The screen remains bright when viewed from the bottom, top, and even at extreme side angles.

Energy Efficient Choice

This monitor is one of the most energy efficient 27 inch displays in the market today. It uses only 20 watts of power in Standard mode, with Eco feature disabled. While the Eco mode allows it to consume almost 50% less, as it scores 13 watts (images of course, will look dim in this setting). Its HP Envy 27 and ViewSonic VG2732m-LED counterparts scores 30 watts and 26 watts respectively.

Dual Monitor and Multiple Monitor Setup Options

With crazy affordable price tag and thin bezel, the Samsung S27C750P can make a good dual monitor setup. The 27-inch screen may seem like too big for this kind of setup, but for computer professionals who do a lot of things on their computer simultaneously, every day, having extra-large screen and doubled resolution can’t hurt.

Though you can always use the supplied stand and put two of this monitor side-by-side for dual monitor setup, it may not be wisest decision, especially if you have limited space and require the best ergonomics and convenience on your desk. Also, though there are a lot of third-party ergonomic choices, there are not a lot of choices out there for 27-inch sized displays. The best ergonomic solution you can get today is the LX Dual Side-by-Side Arm from Ergotron.

This dual LCD arm is perfect for business settings, where users need optimum ergonomics. It’s a fully adjustable dual LCD monitor arm with solid polished aluminum construction and high quality materials. It can supports two displays of up to 27-inch and both arms can be adjusted independently, allowing users to reposition their display; up, down, forward and back, with one simple touch, and still keep the displays secured and stable in place through the help of its patented Constant Force (CF) technology.

Design and Features

If you put heavy emphasis on appearance than performance, then the Samsung S27C750P is a good option for you. It’s quite a sharp-looking monitor with 1.3 inch black cabinet framed in a thin glossy bezel. Its refined and classy case is supported by a minimalist metallic-silver stand, which is also flexible and allows auto-rotate function. The monitor will certainly not look out of place in a high-class office.

Stand that Combines Style and Substance

The Samsung Series 7 is not just all about aesthetics, as the monitor can pivot and allow users to switch between portrait and landscape mode with smooth and resistance-free action.

There’s also a smartly-positioned segment at the back of the cabinet which snaps off to house monitor cables to keep your workstation neat and tidy, and also convenient for switching display orientation. It may be fiddly to use at first, but you won’t have to use it very often, as you only need to place your cables once. The stand however, doesn’t allow height adjustments or swivel left to right.

Basic Connectivity, Ample for Most Types of Use

(image from Amazon)

You don’t get a lot of connection options, inputs and outputs with the S27C750P, as it only has two (2) HDMI ports, a VGA port, and an audio output, which are all placed on top of the back side of the cabinet. For most people, these connectivity options are enough. There is however, a headphone jack that lets you connect your headphone or speakers.

Buttons and Controls

The Samsung Series 7 doesn’t complicate things with its display buttons and control. Settings only include the five (5) MagicBright picture modes, namely Standard, Custom, Dynamic Contrast, Cinema, and Game, as well as the important ones like Brightness, Black Level, Contrast, Response Time and Sharpness. Users can also adjust the RGB tint, gamma and color tone (temperature) of their display and enhance low-resolution images through the MagicScale option.

Also included in the Samsung S27C750P package is the resource CD that stores the user manual, drivers, MagicRotation and MagicTune, which allow users to make display adjustments using their very own keyboard and mouse, instead of the function buttons.

Easy Setup

The Samsung S27C750P doesn’t come pre-assembled, but it is very easy to assemble and setup. The monitor comes well-calibrate off the box. If you’re really inclined to tweaking your display, then you may love to tweak the brightness and contrast a little bit. Also, you have to set the HDMI Black Level to ‘Normal’.

You can also opt for the OSD (on-screen display) and controls in tweaking your display, but they can be a little fiddly as Menu system is cramped at the bottom corner of the monitor. The monitor, however, auto-seeks for the active input, which can save a lot of time from prodding through the buttons.

Bottom Line

(image from Amazon)

The Samsung S27C750P is certainly one of the most attractive 27-inch displays you can find in the market right now. It has good color and viewing angle performance supported by a flexible stand that allows auto-rotate function for easy and smooth transition from landscape to portrait orientation and vice versa. It is a good choice for anyone looking for a big display with great aesthetic quality, color accuracy and reproduction, and decent connectivity options.

The MVA panel makes bright and vivid looking images, while the wide angle makes everything viewable even in extreme angles. It is also one of the most energy efficient displays on its size, while the thin bezel makes it an excellent choice for dual monitor or multiple monitor setups.

Sure there are some noticeable flaws, such as the crushed black, lack of USB ports (which became quite a popular in many monitors today), and speakers and webcam, but it has adequate color accuracy that makes it still a formidable display amongst its competitors. The display is not designed for graphics or fine photo editing, but it can stand almost any other computing tasks, be it office computing works, entertainment, or even gaming, thanks to its fast response time.

All in all, the Samsung Series 7 S27C750P is a solid performer in many different areas. If you’re looking for a big display with good quality, but don’t have much to spend, then this is quite an excellent choice.
