One good example of this is the Acer GN246HLBbid, a 24-inch monitor especialy made for avid gamers looking for fast and smooth performance, and the brand’s newest addition to its budget gaming monitor series. Who is it for?

As said earlier, the Acer GN246HLBbid is aimed for avid gamers looking for a quality gaming monitor for competitive gaming. It runs in 144Hz Refresh Rate, which is the fastest you can find in the market. It also comes with tons of gaming-centric features that will easily elevate your gaming experience. But as with any gaming displays, you need to pair it with the right graphics card to get the most out of its performance.

Inside the Acer GN246HLBbid is a TN (Twisted Nematic) panel, which is the most commonly used panel for gaming monitors for its fast-performance, even for high-end gaming monitors. It runs at 144Hz Refresh Rate, with the use of the right cable (DV) and the compatible graphics card, of course.

Ultra-Fast 1ms Response Time and 144Hz Refresh Rate for Smooth High-Speed Gaming

Advertised as monitor aimed for gaming, it’s expected for Acer GN246HLBbid to sport fast response time for smooth gaming. However, the 1ms ultra-fast response time is still incredibly impressive, not to mention it is paired with 144Hz refresh rate. Both digits are the fastest in the market today, which means you can be assured of great gaming experience with this monitor, as it’s fully capable at running your games full speed.

Of course, you need to pair this display with the right graphics card to run your games at highest level of resolution and get the most out of its performance.

Plus Nvidia’s LightBoost Technology to Amplify Your Gaming Experience

LightBoost is a technology invented by Nvidia for 3D Vision. This feature serves three purposes all at the same time; monitors with high refresh rates are amplified with reduced motion blur, reduce 3D stalk and make images look brighter on 3D glasses. This makes games run more fluid. It also improves human reaction times, which is important for competitive gameplay, especially for FPS games.

Minimal Input Lag, Great for Fast-Paced Games

Though there’s no Zero Input Lag mode available, Acer GN246HLBbid has minimal input lag, which is pretty evident with fast-paced FPS games and racing games. Any gamer knows the importance of fast Input Lag, as it crucial for fast-paced games that require quick reactions, as it can spell the difference between winning and losing.

Decent Image Performance for General Computing

As with any monitor sporting TN-based panel, we don’t expect much from Acer GN246HLBbid in terms of colour reproduction. However, it still managed to score impressive digits for its kind. The sRGB colour space is at 99%, which is amazing considering the panel technology it uses. The AdobeRGB is also good at 79%. Nonetheless, these digits don’t mean colours of this monitor are accurate. The average Delta E of 1.68 is poor, while color looked washed out, and definitely not as good as its closest competitor BenQ RL2460HTalso a gaming monitor.

Contrast Ratio is also sub-par, measuring 690:1, which means it doesn’t have the ability to show the brightest and darkest colors of images.

Brightness on the other hand, is quite good at 323cd/m2, which is definitely one of the brightest scores we have recorded from budget monitors.

Overall, we can’t expect much from image performance of this Acer gaming monitor, particularly in colour accuracy, as it’s simply not designed for such purpose. However, it’s good enough for general computing.

Dual Monitors and Multiple Monitors Setup Options

This Acer monitor comes with VESA-compliant mounting holes for easy and convenient mounting solution. Users can get away with the stand’s  limited adjustability and opt for third party ergonomic products for better  versatility or even for dual monitor or triple monitor setup. The two good options out there is the Ergotron LX Dual Side-by-Side Arm and AmazonBasics dual side-by-side monitor arm. Both comes with independently-adjustable articulating arms.

Ergotron LX Dual Stacking Arm is a great fully-adjustable dual LCD monitor stand. It comes with solid polished aluminum construction and made with high quality materials. Each arm can hold up to 27-inch monitor and can be independently adjusted, allowing gamers to reposition their display and get the perfect setup.

AmazonBasics dual side-by-side monitor arm comes with an affordable price tag, but don’t mistake its price for low quality, as it can certainly stand against the best in the market today.

Design and Features

As with other Acer monitors under the GN line, the Acer GN246HLBbid looks pretty standard. It sports the familiar slightly rounded corners, an Acer logo in the middle of the bottom bezel and the blue backlight power button on its lower right hand side.

The bezels are not exactly thin, and they sport a glossy finish, which can be a little distracting if you work or play in a brightly-lit room. The screen however, sports a matte-finish coating, preventing bright lights’ glares and reflections on the screen.

Buttons, Controls, Preset and Convenient Features

The access to the monitor’s OSD (on-screen display) button are all located at the right-hand side of the monitor. They are however, not labeled on the bezel, making it difficult and confusing to use at first. However, once you get a hang of it, it will be easy to change settings. After all, you get to see the functions of the buttons on the screen, as any button you will press will bring up the OSD pop-up menu.

Menu includes Empowering Technology option, which if activated, quickly changes colour modes. Controls also include the volume control, inputs and OSD.

The OSD also provides access to another convenient feature called LightBoost level, Colour Temperature, Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM). ACM changes the monitor’s contrast ratio on-the-fly, along with other standard options, such as adjusting contrast levels and brightness level of the display.

Basic Set of I/O Ports for All Occasions

The backside of the cabinet houses all the basic I/O ports, including an HDMI, DVI and a VGA input, as well as a 3.5mm auxiliary output. However, there’s no DisplayPort input available, which is quite unfortunate, as DisplayPort is the best cable to deliver high refresh rates and great audio quality. DVI on the other hand, carries the same video quality, but it’s limited to video, as it doesn’t transmit audio. But then again, most people will connect their trusted external speakers directly to the PC anyway, and not run their game’s audio from the monitor.

Unique X-Shaped Stand Provides Stability and Gaming Feel, But Lacks Adjustability

The stand is a unique X-shaped stand which provides decent stability for the cabinet. It allows tilt function, but that’s pretty much the adjustability you can get in it, as it doesn’t offer height adjustments or pivot.

It does however, offer VESA standard mounting holes of 100x100mm, making it compatible with most monitor stands and mounts, should you decide to pair it with a more ergonomic monitor stand, wall mount, or use two or three of it for dual monitor or triple monitor setup.

Package comes with the GN246HL Widescreen LCD Monitor, a VGA Cable, DVI Cable, and Power Cord.

Bottom Line

There’s no denying that Acer GN246HLBbid is a great gaming monitor, and obviously provides great value for your money. It offers the fastest 144Hz refresh rate, which is ideal for high frame rate gaming such as FPS and racing games and 3D gaming. Most monitors out there, even those that are advertised for gaming, only runs with 60Hz, which is definitely not enough for high-speed gaming.

Also, it offers Nvidia’s LightBoost technology, which definitely amps the gaming performance, such as reducing motion blur, a handy feature for big title games.

Viewing angle performance is poor, as predicted. Colors shift noticeably when you tilt the monitor forward and backwards, or when you view it from the sides, a common problem among TN-based monitors. The OSD is mediocre as well, which means you need to spend some time to get familiar on how to use it. Colors are unimpressive, as expected.

Also, unfortunately, it doesn’t come with integrated speakers, which have been common in newer models of gaming displays today. You can however, output audio through its 3.5mm auxiliary jack.

The Acer GN246HLBbid offers the fastest refresh rate for smoother and more responsive gaming, but it comes with some drawbacks, as with other products of its price range.
