Benefits

True and Consistent Color Like No Other

The Asus PA249Q 24-inch LED Backlit IPS Widescreen Monitor comes pre-calibrated right out of the box, with wide variety of convenient features for improved performance, including the 1920 x 1200 resolution, 6ms response time, multiple ports for connectivity and input/output options, and four (4) USB 3.0 ports.

Excellent Color Accuracy and Color Reproduction with Decent Grayscale Performance

This monitor from Asus delivers excellent color accuracy with rich tone. It has wider color gamut that allows it to display 99% of the Adobe RGB Color Space, factory calibrated for high accuracy and outstanding color space reproduction. This means this monitor can show images in consistent and faithful colors in a way many monitors with sRGB color space function can’t.

Also, with 10-Bit Color, images on screen appear with smoother gradations and more natural transitions between hues.

Grayscale performance on the other hand is decent. Darkest shades of gray appear black, but the panel can handle light shades of gray quite nicely.

Good 6ms Pixel Response Time

The 6-millisecond (gray-to-gray) pixel response time of this monitor may not be the most impressive in the market, but it is good enough in handling fast-paced images, though there can be traces of blurs while playing demanding First-Person Shooter games on your PC, such as Far Cry 2. With that said, artifacts can remain unnoticed in high-definition videos and movies, even Blu-ray movies play smoothly.

Equipped with Next-Gen IPS Display Technology

The Asus PA249Q monitor uses the next generation IPS display technology, which features AH-IPS (Advanced High-Performance In-Plane Switching) display technology that enables the monitor to show excellent color accuracy, make brighter and more vivid images through increased backlight transmission with lower power consumption than its competition.

This Asus display also features a brightness rated at 350cd/m² and an 80,000,000:1 ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio for enhanced image contrast.

Equipped with Splendid Video Intelligence Technology for Wider Viewing Angle

The Splendid Video Intelligence technology that comes with this Asus monitor allows optimal viewing angle that caters the specific needs of your content. This color engine technology automatically analyzes the nature of the computer’s present task, and it works by adjusting the display parameters to provide the best color accuracy and image fidelity.

This technology also gives the display outstanding 178°/178° viewing angle, and does not cause color shifting or loss of luminance from any angle – a mark of a good IPS panel.

Different Picture Pre-sets with Designated Hotkeys

The Asus PA249Q has seven (7) different picture pre-set options namely, Standard, Scenery, sRGB, Theater, Adobe RGB, and Two User Modes. With each one can be selected through a designated hotkey.

Equipped with the QuickFit Virtual Scale Function

As said earlier, this Asus monitor comes with variety of convenient and functional features; one good example is the QuickFit Virtual Scale function, which allows users to preview documents and images in their monitor in the file’s actual size before printing.

This feature is activated using a hotkey, and can be a convenient guide to view and edit photos. Additionally, users can choose up to seven (7) different background colors. Supporting formats includes: Document: A4, letter Photo: 8 x 10" (20.3 x 25.4 cm), 5 x 7" (12.7 x 17.7cm), 4 x 6" (10.1 x 15.2cm), 3 x 5" (7.6 x 12.7cm), 2 x 2" (5 x 5cm) Grid: Alignment, Centimeters, and Inches.

Low Power Consumption

In Standard mode, this monitor from Asus consumes only 37 watts.  Significantly lower than many of its competition in the market right now, but slightly higher than its smaller brother PA248Q (30 watts).

Dual Monitor and Multiple Monitor Setup Options

Mid-sized monitors like the Asus PA249Q  are perfect for dual monitor or even triple monitor setups, and a great way to maximize your computer and become more productive at work. With accurate, true and consistent colors, this Asus monitor is a great display for computer professionals who do a lot of work involving colors and design, such as picture-editing, digital motion graphics, visual effects, and compositing apps like Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Lightroom.

For dual monitor you can use Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual LCD Lift Stand. The brand is known for high quality and optimum ergonomics, and this product lives up to those expectations. It is small and compact, with superb height adjsutability and comes with Ergotron’s patented Constant Force (CF) technology which allows users to adjust their display with one light touch.

If you’re looking for more flexibility and maneuverability, then you can remove the stand and make good use of the VESA mount option and hang your display on a wall or use a more flexible monitor stand or a sophisticated workstation.

You can get more of its accurate and consistent colors if you equip your desk with Ergotron Neo-Flex LCD Arm. This LCD arm allows you to put your single display anywhere you want on your workstation, free your desk from the clutter and space-hugging monitor stand, and have a more ergonomic work desk.

If you’re thinking of using a second display to sit side-by-side or put your Asus PA249Q on top of the other, then you can use a dual monitor stand, like the Ergotron LX Dual Stacking Arm. This monitor stand can fit two 24-inch monitors, and is quite a versatile solution for anyone looking for a dual monitor setup. You can also put mount your laptop side-to-side with your monitor in this stacking arm.

Design and Features

Design-wise the Asus PA249Q looks quite identical to its smaller brother Asus PA248Q. Both use the same matte black cabinet and come with the ruler-like markings etched to its bezel. The IPS panel displays 1920 x 1200 resolution, with an aspect ratio of 16:10.

Buttons and Their Functions

The monitor has seven (7) function buttons all position nicely on the right-hand bezel. Buttons include the Power, Menu, Input Select, and the brand’s Splendid Picture Preset buttons. These buttons are joined altogether by two (2) programmable buttons, and a small joystick quite similar to Lenovo’s trakpoint controller for easy navigation of the monitor’s On-Screen menus. It’s a 5-way navigation key that provides access to the monitor’s QuickFit Virtual Scale function. While the programmable on-screen shortcuts eliminates the need for frequent accessing of the on-screen menu system.

Flexible and Versatile Stand with VESA Compatible Mounting Option

The panel is supported by a versatile square stand, equipped with a telescopic arm. This stand allows multiple adjustments to help users find the best angle and placement for their display in their workstation. It has 4-inch height adjustment and a hinge that supports 25° tilt, and pivot up to 90°. The arm also allows the monitor to be swiveled 120°.

The display however, doesn’t automatically change its orientation (no auto-rotation feature1). Thus, you have to manually change your display’s settings in the graphics control panel to change the landscape orientation to portrait and vice versa.

Generous Inputs/Outputs Selection

The Asus PA249Q 24-inch LED Backlit monitor comes with extensive selection of connectivity and high compatibility options. This includes DisplayPort, D-sub, HDMI, and DVI inputs. The best part of these connectivity options is you can use up to two (2) to three (3) displays simultaneously.

This monitor also provides the faster USB 3.0 port all conveniently facing outward for easy access, allowing users to easily and conveniently plug their devices and experience ultra-fast data transmission speeds. USB 3.0 is 10 times faster than its old brother USB 2.0. There’s also a headphone jack.

Tech Specs

Package includes the DVI, VGA, USB, and DisplayPort cables, a resource CD, and a factory calibration report.

Bottom Line

The Asus PA249Q is certainly not your run-of-the-mill display. This monitor is best for professionals in print and media industry, such as graphics professionals, where color accuracy is vital. It has its own niche market that can make good use of its functionality and stellar color accuracy and great viewing angle. It has all the video inputs/outputs you need for any type of computer setup, be it for professional use, office, entertainment, and even gaming. Also, the four USB 3.0 ports allow you to connect more PC peripherals for your desktop.

If there’s anything to complain about this monitor, it would be its grayscale performance, but even that minor setback can’t pull this device down.

Asus named this monitor as part of their ProArt line for a reason – it is meant for folks in digital art or photography field. It has very convenient screen adjustments. While the QuickGrid display is another great feature for professional users in the same field, making it ideal for After Effects, Photoshop, and Lightroom users.

For gamers, this may not be exactly what you need, but the clarity it provides is still amazing for most graphics-demanding games.

All in all, the Asus PA249Q is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a mid-sized display with great color accuracy and reproduction.
