Acer B276HUL Review; Professional Quality Display for Computer Professionals

A couple of years ago there are only two choices for high definition computer display – the Full HD (1920 x 1080) and the Ultra HD (3840 x 2160). Those who can’t afford to bigger screen had to settle for the former, while those who can enjoy the massive display on their desk. Some brands however, saw the opportunity to fill the gap that separates Full HD and Ultra HD, this resulted to the introduction of new breed of monitors – the Quad HD or WQHD (Wide Quad High Definition), which delivers 2560 x 1440. Asus, being one of the most prolific brands in display industry today, is one of the few brands to embark on this new breed of display with their introduction of the Acer B276HUL along with two other high-resolution LED-lit IPS monitors.  Know more about this amazing display at Dual Monitors Guide.

Who is it for?

The Acer B276HUL is one of the brand’s three new additions to its computer display lineup, intended for people who are looking to improve their computer experience; doll up their video, multitasking or gaming activities. Its clever design and great connectivity features are perfect for consumers and professionals.

Thanks to their superb color accuracy and intricate image details, WQHD monitors are popular among graphics professionals and gaming enthusiasts with bigger budgets. The large 27-inch display of Acer B276HUL joins with the other professional grade modes like the ViewSonic VX2770Smh-LED and Dell UltraSharp U2713HM. This product from Acer is one of the reasonably priced WQHD monitors available today with its good overall performance and feature-packed system. However, its grayscale performance of this monitor is no match against its more expensive competitors.

Wide Selection of Picture Settings for Easy Calibration

Aside from the usual controls like brightness, contrast, color and temperature settings, users also have the power to adjust their display’s saturation and hue levels for colors blue, green, red, magenta, yellow and cyan. Acer’s Empowering Technology (more commonly known as Picture Presets) includes the Standard, Graphics, Eco, Movie, and User Modes.

There is also the several PIP (picture in picture) settings that includes input source, size, position, and picture by picture (side by side) mode.

Superb Color Accuracy for More Pleasurable Computing Experience

Sure Acer B276HUL offers extensive picture settings for easy calibration. However, chances are, many of us regular users don’t know how to manually tweak the color settings of our display, or brave enough to do some changes. But we don’t really have to do anything, as the superb color accuracy of this monitor is quite good right out of the box.

The product scored good in CIE (International Committee on Illumination); blue and red colors are right where they should be, while green is a little off but still within the acceptable range. There is also no tinting or oversaturation in colors in this display. Like other good quality IPS panels, it provides bright and colorful picture from any angle. Grayscale performance is also good, though not stellar.

Decent Pixel Response

This display’s pixel response may not be the best in the market, but the 6 millisecond (gray-to-gray) is certainly still good for most types of use, be it gaming or watching action-packed movies. If you’re actively looking for blurs, you may see some in demanding games or sports games like UEFA (European Football).

Energy Star Certified for Power Efficiency

Like any other high-performing large widescreen monitors, we expect B276HUL’s power consumption to be a little above normal. The monitor averaged 48 watts at Standard mode, which is a little higher than its rivals Dell U2713M (which uses only 32 watts in Standard mode) and AOC i2757fh (30 watts at Standard mode). However, simply switching to Eco mode will knock the number down at 33 watts.

Dual Monitor and Multiple Monitor Setup Options

(image from Amazon)

As a straight-up business-class monitor, we expect Acer B276HUL to come with a flexible stand with many different adjustment options. And indeed, this monitor doesn’t disappoint in that aspect. However, if you’ll be using the computer for long hours a day, everyday, you definitely need more than a standard stand and take advantage of the VESA compliant mounting holes. Monitors of this size need a dependable support that doesn’t compromise ergonomics. One of the best options out there is the Ergotron LX Wall Mount LCD Arm, a solid and compact LCD arm is designed to hold monitors as big as Acer B276HUL.

It gives users the flexibility to adjust and position their display anywhere they want, anytime. The arm is designed with one-touch adjustment system that allows easy adjustments and positioning, with cable management system to help keep your workspace clean and neat from power and monitor cables, and keeps your monitor secured and stable in place with Ergotron’s patented Constant Force technology system.

If you want to mount your B276HUL to a wall for better viewing experience, then you can opt for the Glide Wall Mount VHD. This wall mount effortlessly raises and lowers your display and tilt the screen up to 10° to avoid glare. It comes with a revolutionary design that delivers unprecedented height adjustability in an extremely low profile module. It allows you to move your display with only a light touch; down to watch from a seated position or up for viewing while standing.

Design and Features

The Acer B276HUL is a straight-up business class monitor – clean and slim design comes with integrated ventings on its grooves for simple but sleek aesthetic design. Its 27 inch IPS screen is layered with a matte coating to keep glares and reflections at bare minimum. The mate black cabinet is 2.4 inch thick with 3/4 inch dark gray bezels. The bottom of the bezel houses the Acer logo and six control buttons.

VESA Mount Compliant

B276HUL cabinet comes with four (4) VESA mounting holes on the back, allowing users to position this widescreen display better in their workstation; whether mount it on a wall near their desk or use a versatile and reliable monitor arm for better comfort and ergonomics.

Aside from the VESA compliant feature, the monitor is also equipped with an easy-release button that makes changing of display’s location from stand to wall quick and easy.

Multi-Functional and Fully Ergonomic Stand

(image from Amazon)

This Acer monitor is equipped with a multi-functional, flexible and ergonomic stand that allows the monitor to adjustment in height, pivot 90° clockwise for horizontal and vertical orientation, swivel 120° and move panel to both sides up to 60° without moving the base to provide more desirable options of viewing angles, and tilt -5 to 35° in the low position.

All these adjustments are supported by a flat rectangular base that also provides a place to stash your keyboard and other workstation peripherals, while the mounting arm has a slot you can use to organize cables.

Plentiful Video Inputs and USB 3.0

With two (2) HDMI connections, two (2) DisplayPort connections and a dual link DVI connection, users will get to enjoy plenty video inputs in this monitor from Acer. Acer B276HUL also comes with an audio input for its embedded speakers. Unfortunately, the speakers are not designed for optimal audio performance, as they’re small and don’t have bass response.

There are two (2) USB 3.0 ports mounted on the left side of the monitor’s cabinet, and two (2) more upstream plus one (1) upstream port behind the cabinet.

Tech Specs

Package comes with DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB (upstream) cables.

Bottom Line

The high-resolution IPS panel, accurate colors, wide viewing angles and ergonomic stand makes every penny worth it for the Acer B276HUL. It’s a reasonably priced monitor that’s capable of delivering solid color quality and all the good things that comes with IPS panel technology, such as wider viewing angle that doesn’t affect quality at any point. Its 27-inch large monitor provides solid image quality that even graphics and other computer professionals would love to have. It has four USB 3.0 hubs and multiple digital inputs, making it a versatile component in your workstation and entertainment system.

The only drawbacks of this monitor are its so-so grayscale performance and tiny speakers. Other than that, it’s a great widescreen display for anyone looking for a reasonably priced WQHD monitor.
