Who is it for?

If you’re looking for a straightforward business monitor that comes from a product line of good reputation, outstanding performance, quality to use in wide range of environments, then you should check out NEC MultiSync EA244WMiThis model is deemed to be the new wave of mid-sized display, with its aspect ratio of 16:10 giving extra screen space and in good total package.

Benefits

All Bout Business

NEC MultiSync EA244WMi may not have all the bells and whistles of an expensive mid-sized and mid-range LCD monitor, but it does cover all the basic things you would want to have for your workstation, and more. It comes equipped with good set of cool and convenient features, and it performs outstandingly in many areas, making it quite a competitive business monitor.

Has 120 More Vertical Pixels than the Usual

Many consider NEC MultiSync EA244WMi a warm welcome in the mid-sized monitor niche for many reasons. One is that, it carries the MultiSync reputation of good color accuracy, performance and viewing angle. While second is that it’s a leap from the traditional 1920 x 1080 resolution Full HD, with 16:9 aspect ratio, as it starts a new wave at 1920 x 1200 at 16:10 aspect ratio. The 120 extra vertical pixels may not seem much, but for users that multi-tasks multiple windows, web pages and documents, it’s a great convenient thing to have.

Solid Color Accuracy and Grayscale Performance for Improved Viewing Experience

The NEC MultiSync EA244WMi has all the tell-tale characteristics of what we can expect, based on its reputation and product line, especially with the e-IPS panel. Unlike the usual AH-IPS and s-IPS panels, e-IPS panel has a different ‘glow’, whites tend to look a little sludgy and grey side, and it’s pretty hard to detect the faintest whiff what we consider ‘dreaded IPS glow.’ This however, doesn’t mean that the display is bad. As a matter of fact, it performs quite nicely. It comes with a smooth anti-glare coating, the colors are nice, and without any signs of bleeding on its edges.

As said earlier, the NEC MultiSync EA244WMi is a stellar performer for a mid-range monitor. Colors are rich and well-saturated, with skin tones looking natural and without obvious tinting.

The black level is good as well, as a matter of fact, it nailed the test in DisplayMate 64-Step Grayscale test, as it is able to display all shades of gray.

Plenty of Picture Settings and Convenient Features to Choose for Variety of Business Use

This NEC display has all the basic Picture settings you can ask for a business display: Brightness, Black Level, Contrast and Six (6) Picture Presets (Standard, Dynamic, Movie, Text, Photo, and Gaming). It also has two Eco modes (Eco mode 1 and Eco mode 2) to choose from, with another set of Auto Brightness feature that can automatically change brightness level based on ambient lighting, amount of white content on the screen, or both.

This monitor also comes equipped with the Human Sensor feature, which helps saves energy by turning off the monitor after a certain period of time without human activity on the computer.

Control Sync feature allows multiple monitor connection, allowing users to connect up to six (6) monitors with EA244WMi and display exact saved picture settings across each and every screen.

Good Viewing Angle Performance, Allowing You To Sit Wherever You Want In Your Room

EA244WMi’s off angle viewing is quite good, something we can expect from IPS panels. Colors remained true in both right and left sides, and both top and bottom, even at extreme angles. Also, Scaled Font test shows this monitor is able to show small texts with ease; all crisp and easy to read.

Dual Monitor and Multiple Monitor Setup Options

Because of its stellar performance and business-centric features and functions, the NEC MultiSync EA244WMi is a great choice for dual monitor and multiple monitor setups. As a new wave of mid-sized display, this product certainly has lots of things to offer.

It is easily one of the best monitor arms out there, and like other monitor arms from the brand, it is designed with with one-touch adjustment system that allows easy adjustments and positioning, with cable management system to help keep your workspace clean and neat from power and monitor cables, and keeps your monitor secured and stable in place with Ergotron’s patented Constant Force technology system.

Design and Features

(image from Amazon)

The NEC MultiSync EA244WMi looks like your usual business monitor – matte-black cabinet with 0.5 inch thin bezel. Its screen is made up of 24-inch IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel, and displays 1920 x 1200 resolution at 16:10 aspect ratio, which is a leap from the common 1980 x 1080 panels we have in the market for the past years.  It’s definitely not the most stylish out there, but it makes up in many aspects, particularly in connectivity.

Buttons and Functions

The lower left side of the bezel houses the ambient light sensor and a human sensor; the former allows the monitor to adjust the display’s brightness level automatically based on the lighting from the environment. The latter sensor detects human movement; which automatically sets either one of the two (2) power saving modes if the monitor doesn’t detect any human movement on the computer for a certain period of time.

The right of the sensors are the five (5) touch sensitive buttons of the monitor, namely Power button, Input, Menu and Left and Right Arrows for navigation. Above the right bezel are another three (3) navigation buttons (up and down arrows and Eco mode). These buttons come with on-screen labels, making navigation and changing settings pleasantly easy.

I/O Ports

(image from Amazon)

The NEC MultiSync EA244WMi has all the ports you’ll ever need. DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI, and VGA video inputs are all in the rear side of the cabinet, along with a pair of up-firing speakers. It also houses the upstream USB 2.0 ports and two (2) downstream USB 2.0 ports. There are also two more USB 2.0 ports conveniently located at the left side of the display, providing better access.

You may say NEC could do better in putting the faster USB 3.0 ports instead, and though you can be right, this type of USB port isn’t the standard for connectivity yet, and many peripherals don’t support such technology.

The monitor a also comes equipped with the control Sync ports (in/out) and an audio input. The former allows users to copy picture settings from the master monitor and send them all to its sub monitors (up to five monitors) connected to its special cable; quite a convenient feature to have for connecting multiple monitors. It can connect up to six (6) monitors.

Energy Efficient with Eco Mode to Even Save More Energy

MultiSync EA244WMi is quite efficient in terms of energy consumption. It consumes only 26-watts when set at Standard Eco mode, which is far less than its smaller brother EA232WMi (34 watts). Eco 1 mode pulls the energy consumption all the way down to 19 watts, while Eco mode 2 makes it even lower at 13-watts. To put it simply, this product is an excellent power saver.

Also comes with auto-power off features (Two Power Saving modes) –a sensor that detects human movement, and activates the feature to power down the monitor after a certain period of time if it detects no movement or commands in the computer.

With Highly Adjustable Stand for Comforts and Ergonomics

(image from Amazon)

Like most NEC monitors, this one right here also comes with a highly adjustable ergonomic stand that lets you adjust and position your screen however you want on your desk. It’s a nice and sturdy stand, with a round base that comes with Lazy Susan mechanism that allows swivel adjustments. It has telescopic arms, and provides 5 inches height adjustment and a hinge that allows the screen to tilt and pivot to switch between landscape and portrait orientations. However, it doesn’t change its display’s orientation automatically, which means you have to set the orientation of the display yourself manually from your graphics card’s control panel when your pivot the screen. NEC’s PA models like NEC MultiSync PA301W has a better version of this feature, as it detects and changes orientation automatically.

Tech Specs

Bottom Line

(image from Amazon)

The NEC MultiSync EA244WMi is a good example of a quality business monitor. It performs great in many areas, plus it comes with tons of business-centric features that you will surely love to have in your workstation, such as the variety of video inputs, number of USB hub ports and a decent, flexible and fully-adjustable stand. Aside from stellar performance, it also comes with the Control Sync feature, which lets you connect up to six displays (using a special cable) and use your saved picture settings for all the connected displays. It is very eco-friendly and has energy efficiency and power saving modes to help you even save more in your energy consumption.

The only complains we have about this display is its lack of automatic image rotation, which can come handy when you often switch display orientations, and the use of USB 2.0 ports instead of USB 3.0 ports. The former is the standard for connectivity, but having a couple of USB 3.0 ports will future-proof your computer.

All in all, the NEC MultiSync EA244WMi is certainly built to last, with tons of flexible and convenient features to take advantage of for your workstation. It may be far from fancy, but it sure covers all the basic areas you need for your work.
