Cooler Master (CM) is widely considered as one of the biggest names in computer hardware solution and PC gaming. They have product for almost every aspect of PC, especially gaming. And what we love most about this brand aside from its innovative solutions is the somewhat similar designs of their products. This means whatever Cooler Master product you bought a couple of years ago can still go well with the new CM product you wish to add to your PC. So if you have a gaming laptop that you have paired with a mechanical keyboard and mouse from CM, it would definitely look good in a CM laptop cooling pad, such as the Cooler Master R9-NBC-XSLI-GP. This laptop cooler has tens of thousands of positive review in Amazon, and rightfully so, as it continues the quality and reputation of its brand. So what’s really in this product that makes it tick? Cooler Master R9-NBC-XSLI-GP is obviously designed for laptops, particularly gaming laptops. But unlike most gaming laptop coolers we have in the market right now, this one comes in ultra slim profile, making it portable and a convenient travel buddy.

Cooler Master R9-NBC-XSLI-GP is a slim laptop cooler, meaning it’s smaller and lighter than its siblings, all while costing a few dollars less. It’s designed to deliver laptop cooling and for portability. It comes equipped with a mesh surface and a large fan, an excellent combo to make sure your laptop will not overheat, even when you do hours of heavy gaming, school or office work, etc.


Ultra Slim Profile for Portability

The ultra-slim profile is probably the biggest selling point of this Cooler Mater laptop cooling cooler – standing at barely 46mm at its highest setting and weighing only 1.5 lbs., R9-NBC-XSLI-GP is both thin and lightweight, making it an easy-to-carry and portable solution, perfect for laptop users on-the-go. Most cooling pads comes with bulky body and hefty weight, as they’re designed to be used on a desk surface and not to be carried around anywhere.


One Impressively Quiet Yet Powerful Fan for Cooling

Unlike many cooling pads that comes with two or three fans, this one only uses one single fan that measures 160mm. What is even more impressive is how quiet this fan is, generating 70 cfm airflow and barely causing any noise. This makes it a perfect solution for people who share room with others people, such as office settings, bedroom, etc.


Whole Surface is Mesh for Superior Airflow

The entire surface of Cooler Master R9-NBC-XSLI-GP comes in mesh, which means it has no problem providing superior airflow. As a matter of fact, the mesh is actually even finer than the U3 and U stand that CM previously released.

USB Wire To Power Up The Cooling Pad

 The backside strategically hides the USB wire that comes out above the fan. The wire can be routed on either side of the cooling pad, allowing users to find the best setup for their laptop, which depends on which side the USB ports are located on the laptop. When not in use, the wire can be easily wrapped and clipped back to the backside of the pad.

The wire is long enough to reach most laptop USB ports, but not excessively long that it can be distracting. There’s also a female USB port on the other side of the pad so the connection of the laptop can still be used for other USB-powered gadgets and peripherals.



Four Rubber Adjustable Feet for Stability and Comfort 

It uses four rubber feet that keeps the whole thing from slipping and ensure stability on any surface you place it on. Jacking on those feet can also provide better airflow from bottom.

At the back side of the pad are two legs that can be unfolded which can provide improved ground clearance, and of course, a more ergonomic position/setting for users as it sets the pad in an incline position, perfect for typing.

Bottom Line

Even though its fan is not customizable unlike in previous models of Notepal cooler, Cooler Master R9-NBC-XSLI-GP still shows strong cooling performance, especially when it comes to hard drive cooling. It has no problem keeping notebooks and laptops cool as the much larger cooling pads.


It is not the most adjustable and comfortable laptop cooler out there (very limited height adjustment options), but at 1.5 lbs., which is less than half the weight of most coolers out there, it’s a shortcoming that we can consider worth the sacrifice. As its name suggests, Cooler Master NotePal X-Slim is thin in physique, portable and lightweight, making it easily the better solution for laptop users who are always on-the-go.

All in all, Cooler Master R9-NBC-XSLI-GP is a good cooling pad for a good price – great value for your money.
