Who is it for?

The BenQ BL3201PH is especially designed for graphic-intensive work, particularly for CAD/CAM application users. The massive 32-inch also makes it quite a versatile professional-grade monitor as well, as it is packed with great features and functions that let it easily double as an all-around monitor for entertainment use.

As said earlier, the BenQ BL3201PH is a big 32-inch monitor that runs with excellent out-of-the-box color accuracy. It has a generous set of features and sports an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel for great viewing angle and with 3849x2169 resolution, which means it’s a 4K Ultra HD monitor.

Excellent Out-of-the-Box Color Accuracy, Read for Graphic-Intensive Work

Based on CIE chromaticity test, this monitor has great out-of-the-box color accuracy, as colors red, green and blue are all in their ideal CIE coordinates. Colors look bright, rich and evenly saturated, while skin tones look natural. Action-packed Blu-ray movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier looks great on this monitor. Also, 4K (UHD) test images were highly detailed and razor sharp.

Good Gray-scale Performance

The gray-scale performance of BenQ BL3201PH is good, though not great. It has no issues showing the lightest gray shades, but when it comes to the two darkest shades, the monitor has trouble telling them apart, causing them to appear black. This is a minor flaw, and we can’t really see it hurting the performance of the display in any noticeable way, such as loss of shadow details. However, if you’re looking for a monitor with extremely accurate grayscale performance, then you can check out NEC PA322UHDThough more expensive, this display has great color accuracy, grayscale performance, and viewing angle (no color shifting or luminance loss from any angle).

Decent 4ms (Gray-to-Gray) Pixel Response Time and Quick Input Lag for Competitive Gaming

Though not really designed for hardcore gaming, the 4ms pixel response time of BenQ BL3201PH makes it quite a good display for even big title games such as Crysis 3. It shows clean gaming action, though there are little hints of ghosting from time to time.

In terms of input lag (the time it takes for the monitor to recognize the command you input in the controller), this display scored 10.1 milliseconds, which is fast enough for any competitive gaming, even FPS games.

Energy Efficient Monitor, Perfect for Long Hours of Use

Despite its size and amazing functions and features, the BenQ BL3201PH only scores 56 watts at Standard mode. Activating the Eco mode will drop the consumption down to 36 watts. This is very efficient compared to other 32-inch displays in the market today. Its closest rival NEC PA322UHD for example, consumes a whopping 91 watts at Standard mode, and 82 watts when activating the Eco mode. The Asus PQ321 which is another close rival, scored at 72 watts at Standard mode, and doesn’t even have an Eco mode.

With Exclusive Modes and Tools Especially Made for Professional Use

Designed specifically for designers, image editors, and other graphics professionals such as animations, custom color profiles for CAD and low light environments, this BenQ professional-grade monitor is fully equipped with features and tools for graphic-intensive work.

The CAD profile for example, easily improves color associated with CAD wire-frames (such as magenta), making them easier to use than ever. Professional CAD/CAM designer and engineers will also be able to work more efficiently with this display, as it brings out even the smallest of details to view for Pro/E, SolidWorks, AutoCad, CATIA or other CAD/CAM software.

Animation Mode

(image from Amazon)

The Animation mode on the other hand, makes distinguishing of detailed textures in darkened areas a lot easier. The brand developed this mode brightness in darkness areas of artworks, without overexposing the bright areas. This gives animators the power to conveniently fine-tune their animations better. This mode has 10 brightness level adjustments.

Video Editing Mode

(image from Amazon)

For video editors, you will be happy to know BenQ really put utmost importance in this display’s color accuracy and clear line of view. This BenQ BL3201PH offers 100% sRGB color coverage, giving your crisp and clear viewing quality with true, lifelike colors. The 32-inch screen provides large viewing space, allowing users to open more apps and get full access control of the videos they’re working.

PiP (Picture-in-Picture and PBP (Picture-by-Picture)

(image from Amazon)

There’s also an advanced Picture-by-Picture mode in this BenQ 4K monitor that lets you adjust the size of each desktop sharing display space appears (only works with Windows though). This feature allows user to compare two or more images and drawings from two separate computers simultaneously connected to the monitor for more efficient work discussion.

Display Pilot Utility

Desktop Partition feature comes from the Display Pilot utility. This feature allow users to make separate partitions of windows on the screen, set color presets for specific apps, and change settings using the keyboard and mouse. It’s a great tool for multitasking.

Equipped with RevolutionEyes Technology for Even Faster Response Time and Refresh Rate

Though not really designed for hardcore-gaming, this monitor can support big title games. Thanks to RevolutionEyes technology, it activates this display for faster response time and quicker refresh rates. This feature empowers users of this display to work more efficiently and play more comfortably.

With ZeroFlicker Technology and Low Blue Light Mode for Better Eye Health

(image from Amazon)

Like most of its gaming monitors, the BenQ BL3201PH has ZeroFlicker technology that helps alleviate eye fatigue and computer vision syndrome by eliminating backlight flicker.

(image from Amazon)

Low blue light on the other hand, blocks the blue light strain from the screen and keeping it from reaching your eyes. Blue light is known to cause eye strain. Lower blue light level means more comfortable use of this display overtime. This BenQ monitor has 4 Blue Light Level preset s that differ on the amount of blue light being blocked to fit your specific needs.

With VESA Mounting Holes for Flexibility in Ergonomics

Massive displays like this really need excellent ergonomics. Though the stand provides numerous adjustability options, it is not the most stable stand to hold a 32-inch display. BenQ however, included 100x100mm VESA mounting holes at the back side of the cabinet of BenQ BL3201PHThis means you can mount it to a more stable monitor stand, LCD arm, or use it for wall mount setup.

3-Year Warranty for Your Peace of Mind

BenQ is known to stand behind its product quality, thus, it’s not surprising that this monitor comes with a 3-year warranty for parts, labor and backlight.

Dual Monitor and Multiple Monitor Setup Options

The BenQ BL3201PH comes with a fully adjustable stand, giving users a better way to adjust and set this enormous display to their desired position. However, because of its TV-like size, it can be hard to find an ergonomic solution for this display for dual monitor or multiple monitor setup. It is possible though, but can impractical for most types of settings.

(image from Amazon)

For this, we recommend the Ergotron Interactive Arm, HD, a heavy-duty wall mount arm that can hold displays as big as 30-inch to 55-inch, with weight capacity of up to a whopping 40 lbs. This LCD arm provides great flexibility, allowing users to position the massive BenQ BL3201PH anywhere they want. It allows swivel, height adjustment, tilt and even pivot adjustments, and hold the display to from the wall making it look like it’s floating in mid-air.

If you’re looking to revamp your whole workstation to accommodate your 32-inch monitor, and you’re willing to buy a new height adjustable sit-stand desk, then check out Ergotron WorkFit-D Sit-Stand Desk. This height-adjustable desk comes with great height adjustment range and easily switches from sitting to standing position. The base is solidly stable, and the open-architecture design makes it perfect for ergonomic upgrades.

Design and Features

(image from Amazon)

The humongous 32 inches panel of BenQ BL3201PH is nicely housed in a matte0black cabinet, which measures 17 x 29 x 2.6 inches (HxWxD) and weighs only a little over 24 lbs. With this size and weight, BenQ equipped it with a well-built fully adjustable stand to support users’ viewing comfort needs.

The monitor uses touch-sensitive buttons for controls. It has robust chassis and easily one of the most solidly-designed monitors in today’s market.

Buttons and Controls

There are five touch-sensitive buttons in this BenQ monitor, plus a Power button. All are nicely placed on the lower right bezel. There’s a light sensor at the bottom bezel as well.

(image from Amazon)

There’s also a nice small OSD remote controller that sits neatly in the holster stand of the base, or wherever is convenient for you near the display. It’s a puck-shaped controllers that lets you access the OSD (on-screen display) menu and change your monitor’s settings without using the function buttons. This controller plugs into the mini USB port and can be placed nicely on its circular cradle at the base of the stand. This remote control has three buttons which you can use to cycle through Picture mode settings, Menu button and a four-way directional toggle, as well as an OK button.

For the Picture Settings, BenQ has a generous set of 11 picture mode included in BenQ BL3201PH, all of which are fully optimized for their specific user, particularly for professional use, such as animation, CAD/CAM and presentation applications. Like the BenQ XL2420G, it also comes with Low Blue light mode to minimize eye strain and M-Book mode for MacBook users. Other Picture modes includes the basics, namely, Brightness, Contrast, Color Temperature, Gamma, Hue, Sharpness, and Saturation.

For its Ergonomic menu, the display offers Eye Protect settings which comes with light sensor and automatically adjusts the backlight of the panel. There’s also the Smart Reminder that users can use as a reminder to give their eyes a rest.

I/O Ports

(image from Amazon)

The placement of its ports and connectivity options is what you’d expect from a huge 32-inch monitor which doubles as an HDTV. All of its inputs/output ports are mounted on the right side of the cabinet, rather than at the back. This setup makes way for easy and convenient wall mount setup, but can feel awkward if your PC tower is placed near the side of the display.

(image from Amazon)

Like most of its middle and top-tier products, BenQ equipped this model with plenty of connectivity options. There are a couple of HDMI inputs, one full-size DisplayPort input and a mini-DisplayPort input, and DVI input. Underneath these video inputs are the USB ports, which consist of 2 downstream USB 3.0 port. There’s also the headphone jack and the SD card slot, making it more convenient for office use, as users can easily transfer image or video files from their devices to the computer. The back side of the cabinet also features more USB ports, including an upstream USB 3.0 port, three downstream USB 3.0 ports, a mini USB 2.0 port and audio input.

Fully Adjustable Stand

(image from Amazon)

BenQ understands this need for ergonomics for this size of monitor, thus, they equip it with a solid and well-built stand that offers full adjustability for better viewing comfort. The stand allows height, tilt and swivel adjustments and can also pivot 90⁰ to switch from landscape and portrait orientation mode and vice versa. The great part about the pivot function is that, the screen image automatically changes as you change your monitor’s orientation.

Impressive 5-Watt Speakers with Decent Bass Response

Aside from being a great professional-grade monitor, BenQ knows users will use this massive display for entertainment and gaming as well. Thus, they are generous enough to equip it with 5-watt speakers. Most built-in speakers in the market right now are only 2-watts, which sounds tinny. The 5-watt speaker in BenQ BL3201PH on the other hand, is far from sounding tinny. As a matter of fact, it has a decent bass response that doesn’t usually come with built-in speakers.

Tech Specs

Package includes HDMI cable, audio cable, DVI cable, DisplayPort cable, and a USB-to-PC cable, along with resource CD which contains the drivers, and the user guide, as well as BenQ’s Display Pilot utility.

Bottom Line

(image from Amazon)

The BenQ BL3201PH is a relatively massive professional-grade monitor that comes with an affordable price tag. It has strong image quality, but it falls short of being a standout display, mostly because of its mediocre contrast. This however, is a common issue among 32-inch 4K displays.

It has lots of upsides though, namely the extremely accurate colors, UHD (ultra-high definition) image quality, wide viewing angles, and fully adjustable stand equipped with auto pivot function, making it really a great work monitor.

It also has its few missteps, especially in the design. The stand in particular, is not so stable, causing the cabinet to wobble when you bump your desk. Good thing BenQ included VESA mounting holes, giving you more flexibility to improve your workstation with better ergonomics through more stable desk stand or more adjustable wall mount.

BenQ could also have done better in this display’s on-screen controls, as they are a little difficult to use without the remote plugged. Dark grayscale performance could be better, but again, it’s a slight issue.

The BenQ BL3201PH however, is quite a competitive display in the professional-grade monitors market. It has better image quality than Acer B326HK, which is a closest rival. It also comes with good variety of image quality controls. All in all, it’s a great choice for professionals on a budget. Samsung U32D970Q is way better, but it is expensive. Also, those who are looking for a versatile display for work and home use will love this BenQ monitor.
