Who is it for?

As said earlier, Acer XR382CQK is an all-around monitor. But rather than being your run-off-the-mill, Jack-of-all-trade-master-of-none type, this one actually have mastered almost everything. It’s so high-end that it can please even the most demanding gamers, videographers, photo editors, and various professionals who demand an excellent display for their specifics needs.

Benefits

To start with, Acer XR382CQK is a beast – it’s massive and beautifully-designed ultrawide curved screen comes equipped with tons of amazing features for whatever task you wish to do on your computer. Whether you’re working on multiple things and using multiple apps and programs at once, playing games, editing photos and videos, etc., this monitor is fully capable of delivering you all the things you need.

2300R Curvature for a More Immersive Viewing Experience

This means putting a few of this monitor side-by-side will make a complete circle, with a radius of 2300mm. Though the curve is more pronounced in Acer Predator X34 (3000R), it has slightly more curve than the Acer Predator Z35 (2000R). This means an unobtrusive curve that provides better depth and field of view for the users, perfect for variety of tasks, whether it’s for work or play.

Accurate Colors, Solid Grayscale Performance for Vivid Imagery

This monitor uses IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel, and as we all know, such panel has the highest quality standard for coloour accuracy and grayscale performance. Colors in this screen appear really accurate, not looking oversaturated or unnatural. Should you like some saturation for your games, simply choose the preferences you want from the menus to get the look that you want.

Out-of-the-box colour accuracy is pretty good. Chromaticity test shows colors red, green and blue line up nicely in their ideal CIE coordinates. Colors look uniform and well saturated.

Blacks look nice and deep, while whites look are almost spot on, making text extra crisp and brings out more details of either photos or videos. Based on 64-Step Grayscale test, the screen has no problem showing excellent shadows and highlight details in photos.

The QHD resolution of Acer XR382CQK is great news for photographers working on high-resolution RAW files and working on granular editing of photos.

Massive Curved Display for All Your Viewing Needs

Display quality is the meat and potatoes of choosing monitors, and it’s the reason why we buy them in the first place. For this Acer curved screen monitor, it is expected that not all contents fit well on its massive large screen. Videos from YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc., basically contents that aren’t made for the 21:9 aspect ratio will have black bars on either side. This is actually very normal, and some games and movies can actually fit well with this kind of aspect ratio.

The 21:9 aspect ratio is without a doubt, a treat to use for photo and/or video editing. Indeed, the 38-inch screen provides more than enough screen space for users to be more productive, as being able to open multiple windows of apps at once is such an extremely amazing feature to have.

Editing photos with your Photoshop and Lightroom is made more fun, since users won’t have to hunt for tabs and other menus. The large screen is more than enough to provide smooth workflow.

Decent Gaming Capabilities

We usually don’t expect IPS pane monitors to be good in gaming area, let alone have fast and smooth gameplay capabilities. This monitor on the other hand, has surprisingly good gaming capabilities, as fast-paced demanding games such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Crysis 3 all look fluid and relatively artifact-free on this screen, thanks to its 5ms Response Time.

Activating the FreeSync mode only improves the gaming capabilities of this monitor, as it eliminates screen tearing and delivers smoother gameplay.

For its input lag, this monitor scored a respectable 12.3ms. Though it falls short, it’s pretty understandable since it’s an IPS screen monitor meant for delivering better imagery.

Excellent Viewing Angle

Viewing angle is usually a non-issue for IPS panel monitor, more so for curved screen monitors, since this is what the curved screens are meant for; provide better field of view for users, including peripheral vision. Colors look steady from top, side and bottom angles.

With Adaptive Sync Technology

For gamers out there, and professionals who loves to play their favorite big title games from time to time, this Acer curved screen monitor has some good news for you, it comes equipped with the Adaptive Sync technology. We commonly see AMD’s FreeSync Adaptive technology in gaming monitors to amplify their gaming capabilities even more by eliminating screen artifacts and screen tearing, providing smoother gaming experience.

Dual Monitor and Multiple Monitor Mounting Options

38-inch monitors are good alternative for people who don’t like the idea of working on two or three monitors sitting side-by-side to each other. It offers wider field of vision and more immersive viewing experience, perfect for variety of tasks, especially for games and entertainment.

As with many Acer monitor, this one comes a fully functional and good-looking stand, but if you're for a more dynamic mounting option, something that would save your desk from holding such as colossal display, then a wall mount is your best option for ergonomic.

Ergotron Interactive Arm, VHD (image from Amazon)

One good example is the Interactive Arm, VHD from Ergotron. This wall mount can support screens ranging from 30-inch to 60-inch in size and weight of 35 lbs. to 70 lbs. It is fully adjustable, allowing you to swing, lift and turn your display to any direction, and make the screen look like it’s floating in the air. This monitor lets users move their monitor or TV into multiple positions with one simple touch; no more sore necks and caused by awkward angles

Design and Features

Aesthetic wise, the Acer XR382CQK looks pretty laidback, with some hints of aggressive designs. As with other 38-inch sized monitors, you obviously will need a lot of desk space to accommodate this monitor. Measuring 23.1 x 35.3 x 12.1 inches, you would have to give up some of your stuff on your desk for this display. Also, it weighs 24 lbs., which means you need a good quality desk since it’s a bit heavy.

The front of the monitor looks like any other widescreen curved monitor – it looks nice and professional. The screen is coated with a matte coating to help minimize glares and reflection from brightly-lit rooms. At the middle of the bottom bezel is the Acer logo, the top and side bezels are ultra-slim, giving the screen even wider look. The stand on the other hand is aggressively design, which provides a good balance for the laidback style of the monitor’s cabinet.

Buttons and Controls

The right side of the rear cabinet holds the buttons and controls for this monitor. There’s a power button, a three function buttons and a small four-way joystick to access the settings menu. For the presets, there are plenty of options for users. For gaming for example, there are three, namely Action, Racing and Sports. For regular presets, there are Standard, Movie, Graphics, ECO and User Modes. Additional gaming features include Aim Point aiming reticles.

For the Picture settings, it has the standard selection we usually find from Acer monitors, which includes Brightness, Contrast, Black Boost, Sharpness and Blue Light (an extremely convenient feature that protects the eyes from harmful blue lights from the monitor that causes eyestrain). For the color selection, there are plenty of options as well, namely Gamma and Color Temperature, RGB Gain and Bias settings, 6-Axis-Hue, and Saturation to fine-tune the screen for your specific requirements.

Other convenient features includes the usual for large screen monitors mean for multi-tasking, such as PiP (Picture-In-Picture) and PbP (Picture-by-Picture), as well as the Clone or Extend (for daisy-chaining the display) and ambient light settings that lets you adjust the screen’s lighting effects.

Connectivity Options

Connectivity options for Acer XR382CQK are abundant. The backside of the cabinet houses the wide selection of connectivity options for this monitor. The selection includes an HDMI, a DisplayPort, four USB-A and a USB-C, as well as a Power button and a joystick to choose menu items and navigate the on-screen display. The ports are down-facing, which means they can be convenient for users who push their screens to the wall, but consequently, they can be harder to reach. The USB ports however, are outward facing, making them easy and convenient to reach.

With LED Light Strip for Cool Ambiance

The bottom edge of the cabinet comes with a strip of 12 LEDs that light up white, red, blue, green or orange, or you can have it change colors randomly for a nice ambiance for a more pleasant gaming experience. They can also be configured to make a breathing effect, flash randomly, make ripples, or just remain fixed.

With Decent Quality Built-In Speakers

More and more monitors nowadays come with integrated speakers, and it’s usually common among larger screen monitors. This 38-inch monitor is no different, as it houses a pair of good quality 7W speakers. Most built-in speakers in monitors are too weak, as they’re usually only at 2W, making them almost worthless for savvy and demanding users. The speakers on this product however, had some life and depth, making it a good choice even for casual movie-watching or gaming.

With Not One, Not Two, Not Three, But Five USB 3.0 Ports

And since we’re talking about multi-tasking and working conveniently and more efficiently with this large screen monitor, it’s nice to know that it comes equipped with a whopping five USB 3.0 ports. That means five different access points for your gadgets, workstation peripherals, etc., and transfer data files, photos, movies, and even games 10 times faster than your standard USB 2.0 port. Also, USB 3.0 ports provide faster charging for your important gadgets, such as smartphone, tablets, etc.

Aggressively Designed Stand Hints Gaming Feel, Plus VESA Mounting Capabilities

Acer XR382CQK (image from Amazon)

As said earlier, this monitor comes with an aggressively designed stand; a V-shaped stand that provides 40˚ tilt, and 5 inches height adjustment. It swivels 60˚ as well. Also, it comes with a nice and smartly designed cable organizer. If that range of adjustability doesn’t seem enough for you, then you can always opt for aftermarket monitor mounts or wall mounts to have a fully-adjustable and more ergonomic setup for this display by using its VESA mounting holes.

Tech Specs

Package includes the XR382CQK Widescreen LCD Monitor, a Displayport Cable, an HDMI Cable, Power Cord, and a USB Type-C Cable.

Bottom Line

Without a doubt, Acer XR382CQK will leave a mark on your wallet. But if you’re looking to invest in a monitor you can depend on, with the performance and generous feature to future-proof your computer setup, then the hefty price tag can definitely be justified.

Again, when it comes to performance, this display is a champ; no dropping frames, no flickering, no stuttering. Colors are all great, images on its 38-inch IPS screen look crisper, and blacks look darker, making colors pop out even more.

For gamers out there, this display may not be the best out there, but it has an excellent gaming capability, let alone the FreeSync technology that comes with this display. It offers wide selection of gaming presets, while the curved screen provides more immersive gaming experience.

Its closest rival would be the LG 38UC99-W, has better gaming performance, but it lacks the cool lighting effects, aiming feature, and the generous 3-year warranty (as LG offers 1-year warranty for its monitor).

All in all, the Acer XR382CQK is a gorgeous display aimed not just for media and gaming consumption, but even for professional working and multi-tasking multiple windows. It’s definitely a great too to optimize your workflow, and it’s the best out there when it comes to extra-large gaming.
