Acer R240HY bidx; An In-Depth Review

Acer monitors are best known for their specific strengths, which are either designed for gaming or professional use. However, they have also managed to touch all bases in the market with their all-around monitors and budget-friendly monitors. In the middle of last year 2015, they released a budget-friendly all-around performer that works great for many casual users – Acer R240HY bidx. How does it stack against the steep competition of all-around monitors? Let’s find out in this in-depth review from Dual Monitors Guide.

Who is it for?

Acer R240HY bidx is not intended for one specific use, rather, it is designed for anything you would like, be it gaming or watching movies, office work, or everyday use. Meaning, it’s a budget-friendly monitor with all-around functionality.

Benefits

Basic Full HD Display for All-Around Use

As a middle-sized display, Acer R240HY offers decently wide viewing IPS display, which has no problem showing details clearly, and colors vividly throughout the screen. There is little to no viewing angle issue. The Full HD 1080p resolution is paired nicely with 100 Million:1 contrast ratio, this means you get detailed images for your photos, when browsing the web, and even in viewing documents side-by-side.

Zero-Frame Design Makes Great Dual Monitor Setup

The zero frame bezel design puts no limit to users’ visual enjoyment, which means putting two of this monitor side-by-side will make a great dual monitor setup, and perfect for multimedia applications and HD productivity, as it creates a unique visual experience without the boundaries.

This design is ideal for people who are always multi-tasking and juggling multiple apps and windows simultaneously, or even gamers playing their games with a wider and more screen real estate to enjoy the map.

IPS Panel for Stunning Colors at Any Angle

In-Plane Switching panel technology is the best technology right now when it comes to color and picture quality. Colors are crisp and images are true to life. It makes colors pop out even better and has minimal viewing angle issues.

Decently Fast Response Time

At 4ms Response Time, the Acer R240HY is a little short from being called a great gaming monitor, but it is not too far away from the 1ms Ultra-Fast Response Time high-end gaming displays poses. 4ms is not bad either, and as a matter of fact, it can be enough for most games, even big title and visually and graphically-demanding games. It is fast enough to reduce deviations during transitions, allowing the screen to deliver high-quality picture even at moving images, like in games and movies.

Also, Refresh rate is only at 60Hz, which is pretty standard for all-around displays. For heavy gaming, you may opt for monitors with 120Hz refresh rate, butt 60Hz works just fine in most cases, though not for competitive level. Movements and transitions are generally smooth.

Design and Features

Design wise, it is easy to say Acer R240HY bidx is definitely cheap, or at least, cheaper than many of its competitors in the market. The majority of its build is plastic, which means it doesn’t feel great. The only non-plastic part of the design is the logo and the stand.

Firm and Stable Aluminum Stand

Thankfully, the stand is made up of aluminum, which would be enough to provide good stable support to this middle-sized cabinet, while keeping the weight light. The stand stands firm and does what is expected of it, which is limited adjustment. The stand can tilt forward and backward, and that’s pretty much it. Aesthetic wise however, the stand looks good in any angle, and it really adds some great aesthetics.

With All the Basic Connectivity Options

Also, this display supports VGA, DVI and HDMI inputs, which means you can power up your smartphones or tablets and extend your enjoyment from your mobile devices to the 24-inch screen and enjoy the Full HD quality.

Tech Specs

Bottom Line

As more and more users starting to shift to Quad HD displays, it’s hard to imagine someone to still opt for the good old Full HD. However, for anyone not looking for a specific purpose for their monitor, rather, just wants a good all-around performer for general use, the Acer R240HY bidx is definitely one of the better choices out there. Its middle-sized screen still has no problem maximizing the 1080p resolution. Also, the monitor comes with all the basic features you can ask for a product from its price range.

This monitor is far from great, as it falls short in a lot of areas. Such as resolution, colour accuracy, and design. One of the biggest drawbacks of its design of course, it its lack of VESA-compatible mounting holes. It’s a big deal, especially that the stand doesn’t offer many adjustments.

This monitor is targeted for users who are not looking for a serious creative stuff. But it’s good enough for casual everyday use, from work or even gaming and movie watching. It has a good combination of Full HD resolution, good response time, refresh rate, and wide viewing angle. If you’re on a tight budget and looking for a worthy Full HD monitor with IPS panel, then you can’t go wrong with Acer R240HY bidx.
