Who is it for?

If you’re looking for a small, compact and decent desktop that you can use for basic computing tasks, then this Chromebox desktop is right for you. It runs with Google’s very own Operating System, which means you can’t use Windows-based apps. However, it is revamped version of the previous Chromeboxes, which means it packs better and faster processing power and performance.

Benefits

Faster, Smoother and Better Performance from Beefed Up Specs

What makes the Acer Chromebox CXI-i38GKM distinct from other Chromeboxes desktops out there is definitely its beefed up hardware; 1.9GHz Intel Core i3-4030U processor, a dual-core CPU with Intel HD Graphics 4400 and 8GB of RAM. Most Chromeboxes rusn on lower Celeron processors, making CXI-i38GKM a step up in performance and capabilities, which is mostly the result of the Core i3 processor, which is a little faster of course, smoother rendering of pages, and does better job in handling multiple apps, and tabs simultaneously. Of course, the computer boots faster, taking only 4 seconds to go from cold start to the login screen. It also wakes up from sleep almost instantaneously.

Improved Video Conferencing, Perfect for Business

The biggest benefit of the hardware upgrades are emphasized on video conferencing. Google may have built their Chrome Operating System to make the most of the thousands of their apps and extensions on the web, but the minimal hardware that comes with many Chrome-based OS devices in the past fall short under the heavier load required in some apps, such as Google Hangouts, which may run around 2 to 10 simultaneous live video streams.

Tech Specs

Bottom Line

Acer Chromebox CXI-i38GKM is definitely a big leap forward compared to the early models of Chromeboxes. Thanks to the Core i3 processor, it offers smoother performance, with faster performance and better video conferencing capabilities compared to its average Celeron-powered Chromeboxe competitors. This improvement of course, comes with a hike in price. As a matter of fact, t is one of the more expensive Chromebox in the market today, as it doubles the price of Asus Chromebox M004U which comes with basic Intel Celeron processor, and looks very similar to the Acer Chromebox CXI-4GKM, and costs half the price.

There’s nothing spectacular about the Core i3 and the embedded graphics card in this Acer Chromebox, but both hardware are significant upgrades than the previous chromeboxes.

The higher price tag of course, can be easily justified with its improved specs, as the Core i3 processor definitely makes everything feel and look faster, making it worth the money. Still, it’s a relatively affordable price compared to full PC towers, and if video conferencing is the main thing you do in your computer, then you have a good desktop computer with Acer Chromebox CXI-i38GKM.
