Who is it for?

The Acer CB280HK is for users looking to jump to the 4K bandwagon without spending a fortune. It comes equipped with good gaming-centric features, such as 1ms Response Time and Nvidia G-Sync technology, which both makes excellent gaming experience. It can also effectively double as a work monitor, as it comes with all the basic features and functions you need for an all-around, everyday display.

The Acer CB280HK is a 28-inch monitor that runs in a 3840 x 2160 resolution (4K UHD), which is just under 8.3 million pixels. It uses TN (Twisted Nematic) panel, which allows it to keep its Ultra-High Definition resolution even for gaming.

Innovative Gaming Experience, See and Play in 4K

In the world of competitive gaming, every frame has a role, and they all matter. The Acer CB280HK is part of Acer’s XB0 Series Ultra HD 4K2K, a line of gaming monitors designed to keep up with your gameplay. Pair that with ultra-fast 1ms Response Time and the Nvidia G-Sync technology, the on-screen action is clear and smooth, even in action-packed FPS or high-speed chasing in racing games. These features minimize distractions effectively, and even boost the response time for an improved gaming experience and competitive edge.

G-Sync technology on the other hand, works by synchronizing the monitor’s refresh rate to the GPU render rate. This results to smoother and faster gaming experience,  as it minimizes screen stutter and input lag and eliminates screen tearing, making the games you play look sharper.

Good Viewing Angle and Flicker-less Feature for Improved Viewing Comfort

Acer CB280HK has good viewing angle, there are no signs of images being whitewashed, no image distortions, etc., which are the usual complaints in many larger screens. Pair that with the fully-adjustable stand and you get the best viewing experience wherever and however you sit in front of the display.

This monitor also comes equipped with a flicker-less feature, which effectively eliminates screen flicker, which are often annoying. This results to more comfortable viewing experience and reduces the risk of eyestrain and eye fatigue, very beneficial for heavy users such as graphic designers, programmers, photographers doing heavy editing on their work, writers, students, etc.

Decent Color Performance for All-Around Use

Acer claims their CB280HK can cover around 72% of the NTSC colour space, along with its maximum theoretical colour gamut of 1.06 billion colours. However, expert reviews shows it can’t even reach that mark, as it only able to score 69%. It fared better on sRGB test though, as it covers 95% of the colour spectrum. That’s quite decent for TN panels. Out-of-the-box colors are impressive, this monitor produces deep blacks and richer tons that nicely pops on the screen.

VESA Mount Compatible

Acer CB280HKs backside cabinet has VESA mounting holes, which offers sleek and space-saving options for users with limited or tight space. It can be mounted to more ergonomic third-party solutions, like desk mount and wall mounts with articulating arms. Those who are looking to put two of this monitors side-by-side can also use dual monitor arms for dual monitor setup.

Dual Monitor and Multiple Monitor Setup Options

There aren’t many options out there for dual monitor and triple monitor setup for screens as big as 28-inch. However’ there are a couple of good options that can provide you great comfort and workstation ergonomic.

(image from Amazon)

The Ergotron LX Dual Side-by-Side Arm is probably the best option there is. It can sit two 27-inch monitors side-by-side (can support up to two 28-inch panels), and even allow dual monitor laptop setup. It is made up of solid polished aluminum construction, with high quality materials. It’s equipped with Constant Force (CF) technology, which is Ergotron’s patented technology that holds monitors securely in place, and still allows smooth, convenient adjustment for optimum ergonomics.

Should you decide to use ViewSonic VP2780-4K as a standalone monitor, then your best ergonomic option available is Ergotron LX Wall Mount LCD Arm. It comes with the same kind of construction and build quality as the dual side-by-side arm, adjustability, flexibility and versatility.

Design and Features

Design wise, the Acer CB280HK don’t look anything special. It looks good, like most Acer monitors, but it sports the same design idea as the others. It is however, feels robust and reliable. The rounded stand feels solidly rugged.

Connectivity Options

For its connectivity, this Acer monitor includes HDMI 1.4 port, a DisplayPort 1.2, a Mini DisplayPort, and a DVI port.  There are however, no USB ports on its cabinet, which is a letdown, considering more and more monitors today comes equipped with USB hubs.

With Built-In Speaker

The built-in speakers of this Acer monitor are pretty decent. It is far from best, but it can be enough for simple music-listening solution as you work. It’s quite a good addition, especially for users looking to save precious desk space, as they can get rid of bulky and space-consuming speakers.

Bottom Line

(image from Amazon)

There are some noticeable screen uniformity issues, which is common among 4K monitors of this price tag. There most noticeable deviation in brightness starts from the top-left hand side of the screen, which is around 21% darker than the center of the panel. It’s not really a big issue for everyday use, but it can be a problem for professionals with higher demands and demanding work.

In terms of brightness level, the Acer CB280HK scores just about right. It tops 282 cd/m2 (or nits), which is a little short of their quoted 300cd/m2. This means brightness level of contents stay clear, without blinding your vision.

All in all, this Acer 4K monitor is quite impressive, and definitely a good buy for your money. There are plenty of rooms to improve, something you can expect from an affordable 4K monitor. It needs more colour accuracy, but its brightness, clarity, and vibrant picture performance are sufficient. Obviously, it is not the best 4K monitor out there, but considering its price relative to its performance and functionalities, it’s a pretty competitive product, and a good choice for anyone looking to save on a large computer monitor with 4K quality performance.
